Food and Bev was good, but bar service was horrible. Ate at the bar 7:00 pm 4/28/15. Bartender took my order and I asked her to put Sox game on.... she put my order in and went directly to her cell phone and texted continuouslly during my entire meal. Never once did she check to see how my meal was or if I wanted another beer.... my glass was empty half way through my meal and she never noticed. I am in town for 2 days and just wanted to have dinner a few beers and watch the sox. When my meal was done I left.... she still hadn't put the sox on... I'm in my hotel now... got a 6 pack at Hanaford's and watching the game. I always sit at the bar because I find you get the best service...this bartender needs to leave her cell phone off and pay attention to the bar. PS I am always a generous tipper... and for the first time ever I didn't tip.

3 stars for the beer. 5 stars for food. 5 stars for service- 10 people all go their own checks, zero mistakes made, zero turnaround time from when we put down our cards to when we got them back. I went for a business dinner, and all ten people ordered something different off of the menu. Everyone was happy. Portions were enough to fill you up and no more (no leftovers from here!) Prices were very good, choices from 7-20 dollars, with most in the middle. Good fresh seafood, lots of vegetarian options. Beer was solid, but nothing to write home about. It actually would have been quite good if they hadn't added weird flavors to everything! None of the flavors were gross, but I just don't need hazelnut in what would otherwise have been a really good porter!!!

The only reason why I came here was for the blueberry wheat ale ($4/glass) and I came out with a nice buzz! This is a unique ale which all people should try in Maine. The ale itself was tasty with a nice after taste of blueberries bursting in my mouth. The surprising dish was the pizza! The crust was so "doughy" and soft! Ale + pizza = good times! The service was fine - not outstanding. Be sure to stop by and try one of their specialty ales!

This place is amazing! Full bar, local brews- what more could you ask for? The food is exceptional! I ordered a Waldorf wrap with sweet potato fries and have been craving it ever sense! My party of 10 all got different things- fish, burgers, salads and everyone was highly satisfied. The service was also fast and friendly! I can't wait to return!

Might have the best calamari I've ever had in my life. Buffalo tenders were delicious. Portions were perfect! It was very clean as well. Great place!

Went here for the first time last night. We called ahead for a 6:30 table and was told it shouldn't be a problem, but call back at 6 just to make sure. We did this and they said we were all set for our 6:30 table. Well we got there on time, "no tables open", and then spent at least 25 minutes just waiting. We then got our table in the back sun room area by the patio with at least 15 open tables in a row! Why did we have to wait for 25 minutes then!?. The table was a little small for a party of 6 and was extremely sticky and felt the floor at a dirty movie theater. The beer was a bit of a mixed bag as tastes in our party varied but every one seemed to find something they liked. The food also was pretty solid. We all shared a little and got to try a mix of fish and chips, tacos, and pasta dishes. Portions aren't massive but fill you up well and over all every one enjoyed their food. Nothing tasted like it was a frozen or low quality. Over all it's hard to say we will eat here again, but it's not out the the question.

Overall, underwhelming. I had high hopes prior to going to sea-dog. We ordered the ten beer sampler which had a good array of choices, some fruit, brown, blonde, summer, porter and more. Unfortunately the apricot is only served in bottles and not included in the sampler. All of the beers seemed watered down and didn't have much body. Neither my boyfriend or me ended up ordering full size brews. The food was good. We shared a small nachos appetizer and each got a burger- mine veggie style! They have a some vegetarian options- including chili! Service was prompt and friendly. I'm not in any rush to go back, but I might check it out again. Beer snobs- I wouldn't waste your time here with other breweries in the area to be checked out!

Beer 10 service 10 food 10 try the blueberry ale it's perfect and I don't like flavored beer but this is amazing tastes like you're drinking a blueberry muffin and it's not too sweet. It's something everyone can drink.

I never get tired of eating here-Good selections, both healthy and fried. I have tried many of them, but keep going back to the blackened fish tacos-SOOOO good!!!! The beers are OK, I have had better, and I have definitely had worse. Took my coworkers here, and they all had different choices-There wasn't a negative review among them!!! Reasonably priced, plenty of parking, plenty of seating, fast, friendly staff-What more could you ask for? OK, maybe I want some of the choices that are available in their Florida restaurants, lol!!! But this place is rock solid as a lunch or dinner choice, for families or for casual dates, and meetings with friends as well....

Go here a lot for happy hour drinks with co-workers and friends. Great deals. Great food. Love their black bean chili, comes in a ceramic bowl with melted cheese on top and tortilla chips. The best fried haddock sandwich I have had in a long time, in fact I have family members who travel out to sopo just for the sandwich from Portland! Also have had great breakfast on Sundays here. Of course their beers are great. Love the raspberry ale. Always a nice selection of hh drinks from lots of draft choices to specialty cocktails and decent wine choices. Only negative is the staff, seem to be a little snotty, I have never had a truly great server here ever.

The waiter gets 5 stars. We had quite a large group. People kept showing up and he took it in stride and took good care of us. I was initially disappointed with the menu as I'm a steak kinda girl and I didn't see any steaks on the menu that sounded up to par with what THIS steak snob usually gets. Luckily for me they had a beautiful cut of steak- thick and juicy- on the specials list. So that's what I got. I asked to modify it a smidge "bleu cheese crumble on the side, please"- so as not to mess with my nice thick juicy steak. I like mine completely virgin until I dip it in either drawn butter or A-1 (because we all know that's how a steak is done.) It came with a side of roasted potatoes and sauteed swiss chard, which I had never had the chard before. Just to put it "out there" I'm a total plain Jane when it comes to my food and I RARELY like to try new things. I mean, why order something I'm not sure I'm going to like?? So I toyed with the idea of subbing the swiss chard for something else. Then I thought better of it. I figured I'd live dangerously and go ahead and leave it at the Swiss Chard. Whaddayaknow!!! I LOVED it!!!! I could hear my moms voice in my head head saying, "SEEEEEEE.....I told you would would like it if you tried it!"

Yummy lobster bisque and blackened haddock tacos

  • Tracy H.

Staff is very nice and attentive. Beer isn't my favorite, but not bad. The food is between average and below average. Had the lobster bisque and the lobster was surprisingly tough and not fresh tasting. Shared the waldorf wrap and caprese grilled cheese. Both decent. Mac n cheese side was bad ... Very rich, heavy oil and butter. Def nothing special, I would not return.

Came with my wife and in-laws during the summer. We sat outside on a sort of patio area, which was nice...ish. I mean, you're outside, but the view is basically just the cars going by on "Mall side" (as my wife calls it). But I suppose the only other option would have been a view of the parking lot (roof top dining has apparently not caught on in South Portland [Ed. Wife says this is due to the nearby Jetport]). Nevertheless the evening was nice: the air was fairly cool, there were not too many bugs out, and the sky was a fair few shades of blue and pink as the sun set. I ordered the Green Chili Burger: green chilis, pepper jack, jalapeños, chipotle sauce. Incredibly tasty and a perfect level of spiciness for me. The menu also lists a "Volcano Burger" with cheddar, tomato-habanero relish, bacon and a sunny side up egg, but I figured that would be too spicy for me. Feel I made the right choice. I also decided to get a blueberry ale -- looking at the menu on the website, I'm thinking it must have been the "Bluepaw Wild Blueberry Ale." Pretty good. The blueberry flavor was not too overpowering and I recommend it. Though I'm not sure it was the best pairing for my spicy burger. My in-laws both enjoyed their burgers; my wife ordered a much smaller than expected portion of pesto pasta (pistachio pesto linguini w/o the asparagus). The experience was marred somewhat by some loose rambunctious children, but what can you do?

Ten stars for the donuts. Amazing burger, beer, and atmosphere/service but otherwise it's a four star kind of place. We ordered the clam chowder and donuts to start. The chowder was very good, but nothing to write home about. The donuts on the other hand were amazing. Fresh out of the fryer these torpedo shaped donuts were drizzled with deliciously sugary maple syrup and sprinkled with chopped nuts. I love a good donut and these rival the ones I've eaten on the west coast. We had corned beef hash skillet, fried clam sandwich, and BBQ burger as the entrees. The corned beef hash was fresh and light, the eggs poached well and the hollandaise sauce was a great creamy tart flavor. The downside to this dish is that it was literally drowning in the sauce which had such a strong flavor that you couldn't taste anything else. Once I removed some of it the dish was much better. The potatoes that came with it were perfect, slightly crispy outside and sprinkled with coarse salt. The fried clam sandwich was good too but once again nothing to rave about. The burger however was the best burger my brother said he ever had in his life. An orgasmic flavor and tenderness. I also had the award winning blueberry ale. It was the best blueberry or fruit flavored beer I have ever had. The taste is slightly sweet but not overwhelming or sickening. The beer taste comes first and the woodsy wild blueberry follows bringing out the flavor of the ale. So stick to the dishes with the mug symbol next to them and you can't go wrong. I'll be returning just to pick up a growler of the blueberry ale to bring home!

Party of 5 seated immediately on a Saturday night. Food was pretty good. We split calamari and the 10 beer wine flight. I really liked the stouts. My new england clam chowder was ok. My lobster roll was good. There are a good amount of gluten free options available for my gluten free friend. Our server was great as well.

I have always like the atmosphere here and it is very family friendly. They have one of the best kids menus I have seen, with so many options and reasonable prices. The beer of course is excellent and the services is always fast and courteous. I would like to see more dinner type means on the menu to go along with the sandwiches and burgers.

  • Christopher L.

This place grabs 5 stars mainly because of the service. I was here on a business lunch. The server knew when to properly interrupt, how to keep the drinkings moving, and when to leave us alone. Excellent experience. Bonus.. The Quinoa salad with blackened haddock hit the spot. I love me some Quinoa and the haddock added the right level of kick. Quinoa, damn. The beer was meh, but drinkable. I think I may have just been sippin on a flat brew. Would return again.

This Sea Dog was great. We had a party of 10 today and our waiter was awesome. He split our checks for us without even asking (which I know is normally a huge pain for people to do) and the food was great. We got everything from oysters to burgers and everything was delicious. The food and service was MUCH better than the Sea Dog in Hull, MA.

Awesome Brews! Raspberry wheat and brown ale are must haves! Nice variety on the menu and the food was excellent.

Went for dinner last night, and it was alright, however after we declined to order beer, the waitress showed no interest in serving us. The food was okay, nothing to rave about. The fried pickles were the best thing we ate, I'd recommend them. As for our meals, my fiancée ordered the BBQ burger, which is likely thee driest thing either of us have tasted. The fries were good. I ordered the fisherman's baked pie, and it was okay, but definitely lacking in seafood. Also, the table and glasses appeared dirty. Unless, we become big beer drinkers, we probably won't return based on the service and food.

I'm giving this Sea Dog Brewing Co location 3 stars versus the Bangor location which I'd rate higher. We've been to this site a few times and have had pretty consistent experiences, which is nice. Here are the pros: The menu is varied (there are numerous vegetarian options which I really appreciate), creative, and expansive. The restaurant itself is large and we've had good luck getting seated quickly even on busy evenings. Our orders have always arrived promptly and correctly. Here's why they get a rating of A-Ok. Some menu items have been great (the veggie quesadillas and the crab & havarti sandwich) while others just mediocre. The servers we've had, while courteous and professional have not been particularly friendly or personable. The setting is pretty wide open but not as welcoming or full of character as the Bangor location. For some hard-to-define reason, we never love it there, and also never hate it. I'm kind of waiting to have an excellent experience there but to date it has just been, well, A-Ok.

  • Ken D.

Gross. Tastes like the draft tubing has never been changed which makes for stale nasty beer. The waiter 'forgot' about the people with gluten allergies at the table and the food on the whole was just not good. The place is aesthetically beautiful and that's about it. Wont be going back. its sad cause I was really looking forward to this.

I went here during a visit to Portland, Maine. Sea Dog makes my favorite beer so the beers here are top notch. My husband got the sampler and they were all very good. I'd say the food is just alright. Nothing spectacular, just normal bar type food. The service was excellent. If you want a place to grab some great beer and hang out for awhile, this is the place to go!

  • Stef M.

I had a good lobster roll here, and an overpriced steamed clams appetizer. For $16, we got a total of MAYBE 10 clams. What?! There was, I kid you not, an entire cup of drawn butter served with it - maybe that's where the rest of the money is going? I got some sweet potato fries with my lobster sandwich, which were good, and a little stack of sliced pickles. I liked that the portion sizes weren't out of control, but for something relatively healthy like steamed clams (nevermind the butter part :) there should be more than you can count on 2 hands, especially for the price. The bathrooms were really nice, and there's some exfoliating salt scrub in a bowl next to the sink that you can use. Nice! Thanks Sea Dog :) I'd probably give this place 3 stars, but my husband can't stop raving about their beers (I admit they were good - I had a sip) and said it was the best burger he'd ever had. So I don't feel bad about giving out 4 stars.

Not a great place! food was tasteless, I personally did not like any food at this place, we were here for one of my friend's birthday dinner, we just had starters , felt the taste was not so great and checked in other restaurant for Maine course..!

    (2)
  • Liam S.

Does not meet expectations. I have been here twice with my family. Disappointed both times and will not return. Food is actually not good! Do not order anything. Beer is okay, but compared to the multitude of craft beer offerings in Maine, these are the bottom of the barrel. If I had to choose, the porter and stout are the better ones. The service is fine, wait staff friendly and efficient. Seems like most customers are younger singles meeting after work for a drink at the bar.

  • Sam M.

Sea Dog I want to like you but you try to hard. I thought even my food would have your logo stamped on it. You have a lot of beer and that is great. A few of them are pretty good. A few of them have fruit for no particularly good reason. Beer doesn't have to be weird to be good. Your food is a bit pricy for the quality. Fish (haddock) and chips were nothing special. The best we ordered was a beef sandwich. Seafood shouldn't be taking a back seat at a place called Sea Dog. Your staff was friendly even if they did douse me with ketchup. They were very apologetic about that. This is not a bad place to have an airport send off. Its very close, so keep it in mind.

    (3)
  • Gary R.

Wild Blueberry Wheat and the Raspberry Wheat were both good. Again, like with all Maine Blue-brews I can't have more than one... Too much blueberry. Sea Dog also has a good IPA. Not great when compared to West Coast IPAs, but serviceable.

  • Adrianna G.

Disappointing. I was excited about going to Sea Dog, as I have been a fan of their beer for a while, but I found the place was just an average pub restaurant. Food was ok, service wasn't great

  • Brian R.

This is only a review of the bar, as we didn't eat here. Micro brew beer is the star, but the bar is great bar for hard liquor and mixed drinks as well. Let it be known that Ashley makes a wicked-ass gin martini. That's a tough standard because gin is much easier to screw up than vodka, tequila or whisky drinks loaded with a lot of other sweet and sour. The inventory that she's working with is a mixed lot, with swill like Three Olives mixed in with some bottles of local gin and vodka like Cold River that are truly amazing. So, ask for the good stuff, and have Ashley whip up the rare gin martini! She tosses one more star on to a three-star bar.

I wouldn't suggest this place for food. Great place for beer. It is very spacious. I would recommend this for a small group hangout.

Having recently been to the Brunswick location - which has a great, cozy feel to it - we passed by this Portland location for lunch. We are big fans of the new, healthier menu at Sea Dog, so we ordered a number of dishes to share. We started with the clam chowder - a rich, tasty soup with a load of clams. Delicious. Next, the vegetarian black bean chili was piping hot, served with melted cheese. Yum. The garden salad was average, but I'm not expecting a killer salad at a brew pub. Burger was delicious, and the service spot on and friendly. Bravo, Sea Dog!

OH, what a cute logo they have! Seafood paella, fish tacos, steak/cheese, beer sampler (10) We really enjoyed the food and beer here! Seafood paella and fish tacos were outstanding! Very nice portions. Loved all 10 beers (esp enjoyed their seasonal - dont remember what it was called, but grapefruit/peach flavor...perfect for summer)! Loved the dog on the logo so much we picked up some t-shirts!

I don't know if there was a change in management or head chef, but the quality at this place has seemed to drop lately. I had a horrible blackened haddock sandwich this past week and I've vowed never to eat here again. It's too bad because there's no better place to meet for drinks. It'd be nice if they offered decent food while enjoying some local microbrews.

    (2)
  • Eileen B.

Love the lobster roll - though it is more expensive than all of the area lobster roll combined. I will stick to the more reasonable blackened haddock sandwich!

I've been a couple times when home in Portland. I might be biased because I am a fan of Sea Dog beers (just can't get it in DC, so could be part nostalgia). Not the best I've ever had, but definitely good, solid beers. I've never sat at a table, so I can't speak about the waiters. I make a habit of sitting at the bar- even when eating. I generally find I enjoy bartenders more than waiters, and the bartenders here were pretty cool and they're always on point. Sampler is glorious, 10- 4 oz. samples. Appetizers are decent. The Volcano Burger is where it's at- give me fried egg and spicy tomatillo salsa deliciousness on a burger ANY DAY. Typical large selection of pub food, and from what I've had it's all done well. It is on the noisier side, but I'll never understand why people head to a bustling pub for some quiet conversation in the first place. I head there for the beer, the food, maybe some sports, and just fun times in general- and I haven't been disappointed with any of those things yet.

I grabbed dinner here during a recent trip to Portland. Atmosphere was similar to that of a chain restaurant and as someone else noted, it is rather loud. When we first walked in, they had a guy playing guitar, sort of hiding in a corner. He was covering Johnny Cash. So I was stoked. (The song choices sort of went downhill from there...but I got progressively tipsy so I didn't care.) They also had a pool table, which added to the loudness, but the people playing seemed to be having a good time. So I'll allow it. ;) The waitress was really nice and prompt the entire time. I ordered a Jack and coke and it was on the strong side...totally worth the price. The food is your average pub/chain food. I had the buffalo chicken fingers and they were okay. Nothing to really write home about. We also tried the fried ice cream. The coating was a little cardboardy. I wasn't really into it. This place seems to be a good choice if you are looking for good beer and drinks, decent food, and a down-to-earth atmosphere.

    (3)

I want to give it 4 stars, but it's waaaay loud. Fast service, and tasty artichoke dip. Great way to kill time while waiting for a friend's flight to arrive.

  • Allison M.

A friend and I came here for beer and dessert and we were very pleased! We tried the sampler of beers and I enjoyed all of them, there was maybe one I probably wouldn't drink regularly, the IPA, but the stout was delicious and so were the paler beers. My favorites were the raspberry and the blueberry wheat beers. I even ran to Hannaford the next morning to buy some blueberry beer to take back to California with me. Had a margarita cake, delicious! There was trivia there the night we stopped in (Wednesday night I believe) and it looks like they have something scheduled there every night. I'm sad there's no sea dog's in California, I would love to go back again!

  • Lindsay F.

We stopped in quickly on our way back from a Maine get-a-way. I've always been a fan of the blueberry beer, but it was nice to try others. The sampler is a great way to experience that! For $10 you get 10, 40 ounce tastings. What a deal! I shared w/ the Hubby, then we each got a pint of our fave. The Hazelnut Porter was delish, as well as my org fave Blueberry. However there were a lot more I've never heard of before. I noticed they do a great 3-6p bar only drink and food special, w/ $5 tapas etc. Cant beat that!

    (4)
  • Erick C.

Beer 2 stars. The IPA is PATHETIC. Lobster 3 stars. It's Maine so it's better than Cali but man it was kinda over cooked. Cheese cake. 4 stars. Soooo good. Service 5 stars. Awesome and friendly.

  • Malea X.

a gluten-free menu (gluten-free lobster roll!) but no dedicated fryer, so the side options are limited. the bun is from udi's and hubby couldn't tell it was gf. this was far superior to the one i had in boston. good service and inexpensive pint glasses to take home.

    (4)
  • Ellen H.

Not a good start, waitress was nice but not too swift..took her three trips to get my ice tea order. Large menu inventive choices, but my burger lacked flavor. Fried shrimp and cole slaw were good. Passable, won't be in a hurry to go back. Waitress also didn't clear the table off before dessert. Lots of parking, noise level was ok but it was sunday afternoon.

stopped by the sea dog brewery on a long drive from bangor to boston with my boyfriend and his sister. quick and friendly service with a new menu (about a week old). i had the turkey BLT with a garden salad - both delicious. my boyfriend got a burger and fries (great fries) and a blueberry ale. the blueberry ale was delicious and reasonably priced. my boyfriend's sister got the soup of the day - chicken with vegetables. big portion and very tasty! their new menu had a nice variety. at the end of the meal, we were given a survey. the only thing i could think of to change was to add pulled pork to the menu :) great overall and not a long wait for a saturday night!

  • Dana B.

Even though I wasn't impressed with their beers, I was very impressed with their cleanliness, service, and upcoming events. The sampler we ordered had ten beers and they came to us labeled - which made things a lot easier. They cover all types of beers at Sea Dog - Ale, Porter, IPA,, fruity... Our waitress checked on us multiple times and was on top of our water situation (we had been drinking a lot). Also, added bonus, loved the Sea Dog portrait made of bottle caps.

  • Dallas T.

OK, so this was a mixed bag... Service: 4 Stars Beer: 4 Stars Chicken Caesar Salad: 4 Stars Hamburger: 3.5 Stars Fatty Bacon on Hamburger: 1 Star Open Face Turkey Sandwich: 1 Star Overall, I'd give it 3 stars today. It's a new restaurant, and hopefully they will address the low points and capitalize on the high ones. I'll give it a try next time I'm in town.

Apparently this is the place to be on Thursday nights. I met a couple friends here for drinks and ended up seeing about 15 people I went to high school with. Thursday is karaoke night (which explains the large crowd) and the talent levels greatly varied which made it pretty entertaining. yes, i am one of those people who likes to laugh at bad singers, especially when said singers believe they are good! Drink prices were pretty cheap, although I was charged an additional $1 for my drink being a "tall" when I wasn't aware there were different sizes... not really a big deal though.

  • Josh M.

This was my first te visiting this establishment and I must say that it was very enjoyable. The atmoshphere is definatley for the younger crowd, but anyone will enjoy this restaurant. The food was exellent. I had the cheese steak with regular fries. The sandwich was great and the fries were amazing. There are also sweet potato fries for those of you who like those. The beer is in another catagory. There are 9 specialty brews on tap and every alchoholic drink you can think of. I sampled 2 of them, but you can get shot glass samples of any 1 of them. Good food. Great wait staff. Awesome place.

  • Ashley B.

I live like 2 blocks from this place which is why I frequent there so often. The first couple times I came here, I thought this was the best place ever until I went to numerous other breweries in Maine. The food is hit or miss, although I do love the chicken cobb sandwich. My friend and I ordered the cheese plate once and it was $12 for a whole lot of nothing, very disappointing. Will I go back? all the time, its so convienient and the blueberry beer is my fav. but when I want great food, I'll take the $10 cab ride to Old Port.

  • Beck N.

Stopped in here on our trip to Portland...early in the day. Our bartender was pretty cool - chatting & suggesting beers for the hubby. We ordered the pastrami & the reuben...While hubby really enjoyed the pastrami & the beers, the reuben was far too big & a bit chewy for me. If you like root beer, I would certainly suggest their homemade as it was quite tasty.

Came here twice during our trip to South Portland. The potato skins are fantastic and the hot open-faced turkey was like Thanksgiving in May. Service was a bit off the second time -- we thought they'd forgotten us -- but the first trip service was great. Would definitely go back just for that sandwich.

It's a bit corporate here, their mascot is geared toward kids and the beer is made for the mass' palates, but they're cheap. Happy hour deals here (even on Saturday) are great. And a sampler is just 5 beers for $5 or 10 for $10.

Lunch. Salad with chicken and fries. I don't recall which salad, but it was good. Your basic American food-type place. Service was fine and quick.

It was okay, nothing too special. My fiancé had the lobster roll and he said it was too chewy. I had the turkey burger and it was just okay. Service was good though. On the other hand we went to the one in Topsham and had the lobster and mussels and they were very very good.

The only reason for 3 stars instead of 4 was the noise found it hard to chat with my date. Loved the food (we had the artichoke dip) and the Sea Dog artwork around the place.

The newly opened Sea Dog Brewing Co. Has made the location into a nice brew pub and restaurant. The menu has classic pub fare and local dishes, And don't for get the great beer!

I sat at the bar & could not get waited on, even though there were several empty stools. He was only waiting & talking to people/regulars that he new by first name. Boring food. The kitchen does not use any seasonings apparently. The mussels appetizer was boring. The sauce had no flavor at all. The mussels were cooked properly and there was plenty of them. Tried a burger. Couldn't tell if I was eating the bun or the meat, just terribly boring. The one beer I had was good (IPA). I have heard some good things about the other beers. I could not wait to leave this place but it took forever to check out. I have no plans to come back here when I am in town again.

eh...this place was soooo sub par. portland is full of great places to eat, and i'm disappointed that we walked into this place. i don't remember what we ordered, but we had a party of about 10 and i got to try a little bit of everything and nothing really stood out to me. it wasn't awful, but we wouldn't go back. based on food alone, i woulda given them 2 stars, but i had to give them 3 because service was good.

Your basic brewpub - food is ok and tasty, but not especially creative or outstanding. Our server was quite attentive and helpful.

Visiting Portland with a group, one of the "regulars" suggested giving The Sea Dog Brewing Company a go for early dinner. They accommodated our party of 15 quickly (it wasn't overly busy) and we were greeted promptly. Our party was split between 2 tables, adults and kids - and the server (can't remember his name but he was great) took care of the kids - and headed over to us. He asked who was with who (smart guy - avoiding confusion later) and took our drink order. I went with the Brown Ale - my wife had the Hazelnut Stout. Both were tasty but I preferred the Brown. We all ordered and the kids good came out quick - followed only a few short minutes later by the adults foods. I went with the linguini and grilled chicken pasta dish - and it was surprisingly VERY good. Sweet tomato sauce and what looked like homemade linguini. My kids had buttermilk chicken tenders and grilled cheese respectively. Both looked (and tasted - I snagged some) fantastic. Someone at the table ordered the lobster bisque - but they had none. We all thought it was amusing that being in Maine - the lobster capital of the world - they had no lobster - but the server explained that the frozen waters made it hard to for boats to leave port and the price of lobster skyrocketed. So he went with a salad rather than what would have been (if they had it) a 30$ cup of bisque. All in all it was a great time - with zero issues. I will absolutely return next time I find myself in Portland.

A party of 4 on a Wednesday afternoon around 4. Service is kind of slow. My husband had 2 beers, neither terribly cold, nor that tasty. Food was okay, but seemed to take a while when we are nearly the only ones here.

Not really a brewery with a tap room atmosphere. More of a brewery theme restaurant like chilies or TGI Fridays. Food: Just had the nachos and they were soggy 5 mins in because they used to much salsa. Brew: They only serve their own sea dog creations and this beer don't cater for hop heavy lovers like my self. They have a IPA with no bite to it. Should have been called a brown but ale. Not a fan. If you're in Maine looking for good beer they have tons of new breweries cooking up new craft beers to try, spend your time there.

Their volcano burger is great! Good beer and fries also. The Mac and cheese isn't bad either. The atmosphere is good. The clincher is that not even 15 minutes up the road is Portland is some of the best food you ever have period. That being said this place is close to the mall and they have great service. Good place just stuff competition.

So it's Friday, still traveling...in Portland, after a long week...two more days on the road trip...stopped at the Sea Dog Brewing Company, and was pleasantly surprised. At 4:30 in the afternoon they have live music, great brew, and good service. A pleasant interlude in a busy week, a positive mood adjustor. Happy I came in, thanks be to the brewing gods, to travel, to good music and good beer...hooray Sea Dog.

My group landed in the afternoon and we stopped in here for lunch. Beer was good and service was fine. I am giving 3 stars because I was disappointed with my Portobello Mushroom burger because I thought it would come with a Veggie burger instead of just one mushroom and toppings. The rest of the group were just ok with their real burgers too so don't expect a gourmet meal when eating here.

I love Seadog beer, so I was excited to eat here. I had the Fisherman's Pie which was rich and hot and delicious. A thick seafood stew topped with mashed potatoes and cheese, then baked. The waitresses were amazing and friendly. The beer, as always, was amazing. I'd never had anything other than Blue Paw (which is all you can find in the grocery stores) so trying their raspberry was amazing!

Ordered the clam chowder and broiled haddock dinner and was disappointed. The chowder wasn't that great, I've had a lot better and expect better around here. It reminded me of something out of a can. The haddock dinner came with rice and steamed vegetables. I didn't care much for the rice as it was completely flavorless, and the steamed vegetables were fine. The haddock piece was ok, not great as the crumb seasoning was overlooked. The beer is always good and maybe the bar type food is better than the seafood.

My husband and I went here a few days ago because we were starving after a long day of flying and it was probably the best meal i have ever had. I got the sweet potato veggie burger and i never eat all my meals i ALWAYS end up taking half home but this was so good that i devoured the whole thing. My husband got the bacon cheeseburger and was very pleased with his as well. Service was great, food was amazing, i highly recommend it !

This is just the restaurant, no brewery, no tasting room. We bought a sampler to try and the glasses had a odor to them when you picked them up to drink. Kind of disappointing since I love their blueberry beer so much, but hoping to make it out to their actual brewery and have myself a lovely time

Yum! Had a great business lunch here and was fun and tasty. Its an eclectic menu with some local favorites, its definitely a bit above par for a standard brewing company restaurant. If Portland didn't have so many great dining choices, i would have gone here again, but I had to keep trying different places!

I ordered the Turkey burger with sweet potato fries, and it was fantastic. I also ordered a margarita to drink, followed by a Caribbean Dreamsicle. Both also very fantastic. This was my first time at this restaurant and plan on going back when I visit Portland again.

For our only dinner in Portland, we selected this enticing-looking brew pub in the Southwest portion of town (read "Portland's stab at suburbia"). I'd describe this joint as decent without being earth-shattering. Due to pressure from a friend on the West Coast, I had the Lobster Roll - I'll rinse and repeat by saying it was decent but not earth-shattering. Tried a margarita - it did the trick, but it's nothing like what you'd get in the tropics. If you're in Portland and looking to have a fun if relatively safe evening get-out, you could do worse, but you could probably do better with some research.

Excellent beers and great food. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Not too loud but there is plenty going on to entertain! Always make it a point to stop in for a good bite and drink when I'm in town.

Sea Dog was recommended by the desk clerk from my hotel stay. Monday night was crowded and I had to sit at the bar. Very noisy! Took a long time to get served. The star was the Irish Stout. Very good, I give it an A. Ordered the Pub Burger. Fries were wonderful, I give them an A. Burger was a disappointment except for the caramalized shallots, yum! Burger gets a C+. The bun was extremely soggy and the bacon slabs looked like it was really pork belly. That would have been great put it was not crispy. I was never asked if I'd like another beer. My server gets a B-. Would have rated service C+, but it was crowded that night. Hostess was very friendly, and rates an A.

A local business with local brew and food made from local farms! YES! The hostess was pleasant with her greeting. She asked if we had a seating preference, which I think is fantastic. While trying to decide she let us know there was live entertainment (Friday night) and decided, "Oh, opposite of where that is..." She laughed and said no problem. Although, I must say, we could hear a bit of the singing and it was decent. Mike our waiter was great, perfect amount of attention, a sincere smile, he spoke clearly and was just the epitome of a great server! Thank you Mike!! The specials were brought to our attention and most of what was listed contained ingredients from local farms/resources. Three words...Pineland Farms Cheese! SOOOO good. They had an amazing burger, All Natural (See the picture I posted) - On a pretzel bun was a perfectly medium cooked burger with blue cheese (locally sourced), maple pork belly (locally sourced) and the fries were maple peppered potato wedges - sweet with heat! I would recommend this be added to their regular menu :) My favorite burger is the Volcano Burger (see the picture I posted) - it has Pineland Farms Cheddar (Locally made), bacon, tomato onion relish and my favorite burger topping, FRIED EGG!! I have been to a few Sea Dog restaurants, but this one is by far my favorite. They didn't run out of Blue Paw on draft like another location I have been to. The food was prepared and tasted so much better than the other locations. I haven't tried many Entrees here, because burgers and apps go best with the beer. The staff here was fantastic. The restrooms were neat and clean (a huge win for me). I look forward to returning.

Solid joint for good bar food. The place looks like it's located in suberbea hell, but isn't just another cookie cutter tgifrichilli-rubyunoswings. The beer selection is solid and the service quick and friendly. The blueberry BBQ sauce and wombat habanero sauce are amazing as a combo. And stand well separately. The price is also fair for what you get. Also the kitchen is open much later than other establishments in the area.

Casual dining with some tasty food and beer. Our waiter was excellent, friendly, knowledgable about the food and beer and very accommodating. In my opinion good wait staff can make or break a restaurant. Good food can not stand by itself with poor staff and management. My husband is the beer drinker and ordered one in tap, it was a little flat for his taste and was promptly replaced when brought to our waiters attention. I ordered the mango martini which was quite tasty and hit the spot My husband decided to have the boiled lobster which was cooked perfectly. I had the cod with lemon risotto. I am a risotto snob and thoroughly enjoyed this tasting, wish there had been more. The cod was good, a tiny bit overcooked and dry but not bad. The tomato with corn vegetable was Aldo very good with nice flavors. A nice dining experience and not crowded for a Saturday night.

Awesome first experience. Mike was amazing, very attentive but not hovering. The food was amazing, steak and artichoke skewers came out way more rare than we had asked for, they were glad to have them remade and refused to charge us for them... I tried the wild blueberry ale for the first time ever. AMAZING! My girlfriend had the carribean dreamsicle and talked me into the 6 beer sampler. Tried the Irish stout, hazelnut porter, golly wobble ale, east India ale, sunfish ale and raspberry ale. All were absolutely amazing! Bold flavor combinations and excellent. My girlfriend isn't a big beer drinker and she enjoyed trying all the samples! Truly an awesome first experience and will definitely return for many more dinners, and Sea dog brewery has a new fan!

Of course lots of great beers on tap. The atmosphere is pretty standard for the brewers who open restaurants to showcase their beer selection. The staff was great and very prompt and attentive. It's hard to give an overall review of the food quality only going there once but I had a great steak and cheese sandwich that could almost compete with what you can get in Philly. The fries were really good too, not over or under cooked.. just right. I will definitely be going back and try other things on the menu.

This is a great brew house! I got the Jerk Swordfish special. It was on a bed of cilantro coconut brown rice (whole grains = healthy ;-) with pineapple relish. The searing on the fish was spectacular. Let's face it, fire tastes good. My first bite was full of that fresh grilled flavor, I'm convinced they cooked a prime rib or rib eye on that spot immediately prior. (poor man's surf and turf) Then the notes of coconut and fresh cilantro hit me. This was a meal from a much higher end establishment, I had to confirm that there were burgers on the menu. Just Great! I had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, at the waitress's behest, since everything else was so good; wasn't disappointed with that either. All told - $30 bucks! Phenomenal! In the words of the Govenator; "I'll be back!"

I'm giving this place one star for a very simple reason. I have a shell fish allergy and cannot eat shrimp. I ordered a burger and some onion rings. My companion ordered something I'm allergic to. No big deal. I can be around it just not eat it. We were talking about my allergy and a waitress over heard us talking. She asked me what I ordered and I mentioned the onion rings. She then told me that they fry the onion rings in the same oil as the shrimp. I had to change my order so to stay away from anything fired. I was lucky that the waitress overhead my conversation. I didn't see anything on the menu that would have warned me. As for the food, I thought it was okay but nothing great. I did like the Raspberry Beer that I had. If it wasn't for the fried food issue, I'd probably give this place 3 stars.

This is my weekly local....they make you feel like Norm at Cheers! Would be hard to find better, friendlier service. Great food, frequently changing specials and good beer. Have only been seated at a table a few times, but service there is just as good as at the bar, and that is almost never true! And when you just don't want a beer there are a few good Islay Scotches.

I had been avoiding this place largely because I knew their beers were brewed by Shipyard and I am not by any means a fan of Shipyard's beer. A group of us decided to stop by on a whim because we both had visited Sebago Brewing Company twice in the past and we wanted to compare the local offerings. Firstly, I was much more impressed with the ambiance of this place in comparison to the Sebago Brewing Co. Sea Dog's interior is primarily made of stucco and exposed brick which made the place feel less "chain restaurant" like. I ordered the apricot ale and was very pleased with not only the crispness of the beer but the complexity in flavor and aroma of the apricot. A 22 ounce was $5.50. I ordered the Pub Burger ($11.99) which was served with the exact same fries that they have at Sebago (delicious). The burger was served with "beer cheese", two thick pieces of bacon (I would have just called it smoked pork belly because of how thick it was!), caramelized shallots and mustard. Believe me when I say that this was the best burger I have had in or around Portland. My wife got the Garlic Burger, which was good, but not nearly as good as mine. Her bun, I didn't like as much and the burger had less of a char taste. Go...get the burger...get a beer....

The menu boasts very flashy, gourmet looking items but all the food is very, very average. My "baked" mac n cheese was literally just plain mac n cheese with ritz crackers on top. My turkey burger was a little too grey and tasted like a dull sausage patty. The FRIED PICKLE CHIPS, however, were amazing but maybe just because the concept is so awesome that it's hard to do wrong. I wouldn't recommend the place.

Went here when I first moved to the area, My wife and I love beer and were hoping to find this place worth going to again. If you love craft beer, I can almost assure you you'll hate most sea dog beers. I had a sampler and nearly all the beers had this natural flavor cloying syrupy taste. The others were unremarkable. We were in during a slower time and the bartender service was incredibly inattentive. Go to Sebago if you are looking for an alternative in south portland.

Came with family during our annual trip in summer. The beer was good, but they are a brewing co., so no big shock there. You can see the food we ordered in my pictures. My only qualm was with my pesto. The portion was $10.99 for what wasn't even a lunch sized serving. Most of the plate was nuts and I'm glad I got the asparagus on the side (to feed my dad) because it would have added to the complete illusion that this was a worthwhile order. All three types of burgers my family ordered were amazing I'm told. Guess I should try something more substantial next time. Too expensive overall though, so maybe not anything more than a beer and shared app.
